Around 1535, was the Site One of the Holy Mary, and to be inhabited by the indigenous peoples, until 1759, when the jesuits were expelled. The colonization of the systematic began in 1856 with the arrival of immigrants in switzerland, germany and austria. 

In 1860, emperor D. Pedro II visited the colony, and, in 1867, it was formed in the town Cachoeiro de Santa Leopoldina. The idea caught on, and if you made it to the 3rd-most populous city in the Empire. In 1882, was emancipated and became a municipality in 1884, and the town in the early 1890s. 

Santa Leopoldina, had an important role in the commercial, cultural, and political life. The county has three districts: the Seat, Djalma Coutinho Mangaraí, community, and mountainous terrain. The rio Santa Maria da Vitoria is on the main road in the water.
