The Santa Maria de Jetibá Municipal Public Library is located at 315 Hermann Miertschink Street, downtown, and is open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The contact phone number is (27) 3263-4377. It offers a collection of about 5,000 books and allows borrowing.

Reviving the native art of their ancestors was the goal that gave rise, in the 1960s, to the first folkloric dance group in Santa Maria de Jetibá. From the 1980s onward, numerous other groups emerged, many formed by school youth. Today, the local folkloric dance groups bring together everyone from children to adults, all dedicated to preserving and valuing Pomeranian culture. Performances can be enjoyed at various traditional municipal festivities and, especially, at the Dance Festival held in September, when all local groups gather along with participants from other regions.

The Trombonists have been part of Santa Maria de Jetibá’s history since its early days. The first trombone group in the municipality was formed with the arrival of the first pastor to the then newly established Lutheran parish of Santa Maria, Heinrich Wrede, in 1904. Today, there are 25 active groups, with approximately 700 trombonists. Their performances can be enjoyed during Sunday services or at festive events, with prior scheduling with the groups.

The Pomeranian language is the main link of integration among Pomeranian descendants and the most prominent cultural expression of the municipality. Present in the community’s everyday conversations, it keeps local traditions and identity alive. Officially recognized in the municipality on June 4, 2009, through Bill No. 031/2009, Pomeranian belongs to the Western Germanic language family, in the Low Saxon/East Low German subfamily. Today, those who wish to learn the language can access dictionaries available at the Casa Típica and mobile apps, such as “Learn Pomeranian,” which make studying and practicing the language easier.

The Lutheran Church and the Pomeranian Immigration Museum, which houses a collection of photos and objects depicting the arrival of the first German and Pomeranian immigrants in Espírito Santo and in the municipality of Santa Maria de Jetibá.

The municipality’s first square is a public space and a symbol of citizenship,
intended for leisure, gatherings, and small community celebrations. The Central Square of Santa
Maria de Jetibá is welcoming for the whole family, with a large area for children to run and
play, as well as a fun playground. The place also features a stage for
performances on festive occasions, making it a great space for hosting events and attractions
cultural activities.

Historical revival in São João do Garrafão. On December 20, 2024, the reconstructed Dutch Immigration House and “Isaach Lauvers” Museum will be inaugurated—a space that preserves and values the history, culture, and traditions that are part of our identity.

It refers to the architectural style found in several buildings in the city, especially the City Hall and some residences, characterized by exposed wooden structures and sloped roofs. This style is a legacy of Pomeranian and German colonization in the region, and the city is known as the “most Pomeranian city in Espírito Santo” due to the strong influence of this culture.

Inaugurated in 2009 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Pomeranian immigration in Espírito Santo, the monument is a symbol of the strength and tradition of this culture. Representing a typical Pomeranian family, it stands out in the charming Pomeranian Immigrant Square, one of the city’s main landmarks and a must-visit for those who want to get close to the history and roots of the region.

The museum is housed in a building with typical Pomeranian architectural features, dating back to the early 1930s, which previously accommodated the Fruit Cultivation Station. Its collection preserves and tells the history of the Pomeranian people, keeping alive the
memória e a cultura dessa comunidade.

Construída em 1904 pela família Zietlow, na localidade de Ilha Berger, esta casa preserva até hoje suas madeiras, janelas e portas originais. Em 2019, foi inaugurada na Praça Principal, passando a abrigar a Casa do Artesão, onde são comercializados produtos da agroindústria local e artesanatos da região. Um belo exemplar da arquitetura pomerana, o local é perfeito para registrar fotos e adquirir uma lembrança especial de Santa Maria de Jetibá.
